How You Can Teach Children Protection

1️⃣ Make it Visual and Imaginative
Children learn through imagery and play, so turn protection into a superpower.
Example: The Golden Bubble Game
Ask them to imagine they are blowing a giant magical bubble around themselves.
Colour options: gold, pink, blue, rainbow let them choose!
Say:
“Your bubble keeps you safe, calm and happy. Only good things can come in.”
They can "tap" the bubble to activate it.
4️⃣ Bedtime Visualisation (Fun & Soothing)
Make bedtime protection an adventure.
The Guardian Animal Visualisation
Ask your child to pick a magical animal (dragon, unicorn, lion, wolf, owl).
Guide them:
“Your animal friend stands by your bed and keeps watch.
It glows with bright light.
Nothing scary or noisy can come near when your guardian is here.”
They can even name the animal this creates consistency and emotional comfort.
2️⃣ Use Simple Protection Affirmations
Short, catchy and easy for them to remember.
Affirmation Ideas:
-
“I am safe. I am protected.”
-
“My bubble keeps all good things in and all yucky things out.”
-
“Only kindness can come near me.”
-
“I am full of light and nothing can dim my shine.”
-
“My room is safe, my bed is safe, and I sleep in golden light.”
-
For younger kids, repeat together like a rhyme.
5️⃣ Make Protection Physical (for younger children)
Kids love action-based rituals.
-
Switch on an imaginary “force field” by pressing a pretend button on their wrist.
-
Spray “fairy mist” (bedroom lavender spray) as protection spray.
-
Draw a shield on paper and colour it each night.
-
Use cuddly toys as protectors lined up at the door or window.
3️⃣ Turn Protection Into a Song (Children LOVE songs)
You can teach this as a bedtime or morning routine.
Song Idea to the tune of Twinkle, Twinkle:
“Golden, golden light around,
Keeps me safe and keeps me sound.
Only love can come to me,
Wrapped in light so happily.
Golden, golden light around,
Keeps me safe and keeps me sound.”
Or a more upbeat version:
Superhero Shield Song (to any bouncy tune):
“I switch my shield on bright and strong,
It keeps me safe all day long.
Nothing tricky can get through,
My shield protects me through and through!”
6️⃣ Routine Is Everything
Protection becomes second nature when it’s consistent.
-
Morning: “Switch on your bubble” before school.
-
Afternoon: Shake off the day (literally shake arms/legs).
-
Evening: Bubble + guardian animal + short affirmation.
